Limitations of the Optimize function

Recommended Posts

I am just starting to working with the pdfelement pro program to pre-process files for document imaging. Every time I optimize a file it tries to save it on the desk top. I change this to a working folder but the program does not remember the setting from one file to the next. This is very counterproductive because:
a) if another user logs in they cannot see these optimized files.
b) I sometimes use an automated process (from a folder) to import the files to a document imaging system. I have to move (not copy) each file from the desktop or constantly change the save file folder location.
c) At my day job the company forbids saving files on the desktop for security, data backup and operational reasons.

Questions:
1) Is there any way to set the optimize folder location to another folder? I cannot find this in the documentation or in any preference setting.
2) Is there any way to put a button on the toolbar to optimize a file rather than use the pull-down menu.
3) Is there any way to batch a PDF file to optimized PDF? I can see where I can batch convert a PDF to almost anything, except an optimized PDF. These batch conversions also include the output file location options, which is what is needed for optimize. The program already adds the 'optimize' text to the filename.

Thanks

Ayem

Hi Ayem,

Here are answers to three questions:

1. I am afraid that currently there is no preference setting for folder location; Instead, every time, it will go back to the recently visited folder location.

2. I am afraid not. Here is what can be customized into the toolbar.

3. Yes, the batch optimize feature will come out in version 6.9.0 that is estimated to be released in April this year.

Thanks and best,

As regards 1. The program does <<not>> remember the last used folder, it returns to the desktop folder every time. When optimizing 50 files i I had to change folder 50 times.

Hi Ayem,

Are you using the latest version 6.8.5? If not, it is advised to update to the latest version.

Hi Ayem,

You are right. The folder path for saving a file goes the same with its original file folder location.

Our developers will optimize this and change it mechanism to be the recently visited folder.

The new version will be released next week. Please look forward to that.

Best,
